Book review
Barefoot
by Joy Ugi
Issue date: 8/18/08 Section: A&E
If you're looking for a nothing-to-do, book version of a chic flick, Barefoot is the year's winner. Not surprisingly, the plot is a far cry from reality, complete with corny lines and obvious hooks.
The story is based around three women all with huge issues. Vikki has cancer. Her sister Brenda is lovesick. Their friend Melanie is having an affair. They're all on vacation with Vikki's two little boys on Nantucket Island for the summer and they all hope to forget about their problems.
Events come to a head at the end of the summer when Vikki's cancer becomes worse. and the other characters realize their problems are miniscule to Vikki's: losing her kids, husband, and life. The women emerge from their high school dramas to act like adults.
I wouldn't recommend this book to any guys. As for women, it's a good just-for-fun read.
