Seniors Jake Baldwin, Jake Green, Brandon Mayweather and Wesley Parker ended their collegiate basketball careers on March 1 with a heartbreaking loss to Maryville College in the Great South Athletic Conference finals.
However, the Lions had a productive 14-13 year.
The team was led by a strong core that was physically and academically strong.
Piedmont ranked second to Emory University in the number of students on the GABCA Division-III All-State Academic Team.
The Lions had eight players recognized for excellence on the court and in the classroom.
The men were guided this season by Baldwin, the leading scorer in 24 of the 27 games. He was also the leading blocker and rebounder, averaging 8.8 boards per game.
Baldwin was the second highest scorer in NCAA Division-III, scoring over 700 points.
He was named GSAC Player of the Year for the second straight season and was one of 10 finalists to be considered for the prestigious Jostens Trophy. He leaves holding seven different Piedmont basketball records.
With four seniors leaving, the Lions have holes to fill in the starting line-up for next season.
Both Green and Parker started every game this year, combining for 454 points. Green averaged 2.2 steals per game with Parker posting over four rebounds per game. Mayweather averaged over eight points per game.
With Piedmont returning sophomore starters Samuel Coppage and Michael Rubio, the Lions look for another successful year next season.
