A Fantasy Casino Night was the featured student life event at the senior overnight on Thursday.

Piedmont's senior overnight program allows high school seniors from across the nation to spend the night with a current student at Piedmont and receive a more in depth view of the college life.

The overnighters were invited to attend the Casino night along with other school events including a baseball game and the final dress rehearsal for Gammer Gurton's Needle in the new Swanson Center.

"It's definitely not what I expected to see when I came to a college campus," says Narissa George, a senior from Hirem, Ga.

Many of the other senior overnighters had the same reaction as George. They didn't expect to find a college giving their students fake money and encouraging them to gamble.

"I heard about Piedmont from one of the admissions staff at a college fair," says Erika Baykia, a senior from Atlanta. "They made it sound interesting but I never thought I would see all the cool things that this school does."

When the seniors arrived on campus Thursday afternoon, most said they had a general idea of what to expect, but had tons of questions for both current students and Piedmont faculty concerning classes, dorms and student life.

Students like George, who didn't come in with questions, had parents who did.

"My mom asked the majority of the questions about stuff like laundry and rooms so there was no need for me to ask," George says.

With a big part of deciding which school to attend based on the living situation, some students felt it was beneficial to be allowed to stay in the dorm overnight with their host.

Tabitha Blackmon, a senior from Canton, Ga. says, "The dorms were a lot bigger than I thought. I've visited other schools like West Georgia and their rooms are half the size of Piedmont's."

The general statements made by the visiting overnighters included comments about loving the people and how nice fellow students were to one another.

Although many heard about Piedmont from Admissions staff or friends who are already Piedmont students, the senior overnighters say that having the opportunity to get to live a day in the life of a college student puts Piedmont ahead of other schools that just want to showcase their academics or athetics.

"Piedmont allows students to see and experience every aspect of the school instead of just telling them about it," says Blackmon, "Getting a chance to go into classes and stay in the dorms opened my eyes to what's going to happen next year. That's what I love about Piedmont."
