In the past week, the Vatican has issued seven additional deadly sins, giving us a grand total of 14 deadly sins. These new sins consist of being obscenely wealthy, polluting the environment, drug dealing, abortion, pedophilia, causing social injustice, carrying out morally debatable scientific experiments and allowing genetic manipulation. It's redundant; now it's just more specific.

With a new generation, we have needed to update the rulebook a little bit with all of our new advances in technology. We can argue that pedophilia falls under lust, and being too wealthy falls under greed. The social decline can probably be linked to the internal corruption of the church, government and so on. Whether it's something as minimal as an elaborate prostitution ring, or much more dire such as using an authority position to molest children, the system is falling apart. We acknowledge the increase in wrongdoings. We throw the ridiculous notion that if people who want to have sexual relations with children think they will go to hell, they will just stop. Drug dealers, who I'm sure are devout Christians, will surely give up their lifestyles. This is a good thing. The whole concept of the deadly sins is to be an interpretive basis for Christians to live their lives and base their lives on. When you introduce specific laws and offenses it just gets ridiculous. However, this will open the gate for the much awaited sequel of the movie Seven, which will bring back Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman in the heart-racing thriller Fourteen.
