A six-run fifth inning propelled the Lady Lions' softball team to their first win of the season, and gave them a split in their Feb. 24 doubleheader.
Piedmont won the second game over visiting Adrian College 6-3 following an 8-0 loss to DePauw University.
The women could scrap up only three hits, while committing five errors in the loss.
Junior Lindsey Drevlow pitched the complete game, surrendering four earned runs, allowing 12 hits and four walks while striking out four.
However, Piedmont rebounded after a three run deficit, scoring all six of its runs off Adrian in the fifth frame.
Five walks were drawn in the inning, including a bases-loaded RBI walk to senior Marissa Harding.
With the bases still loaded, a wild pitch plated two runs to tie the game.
Freshman Raley White then connected with an RBI double to give Piedmont their first lead of the day.
White collected her first collegiate hit in the opening game against DePauw in her first at-bat.
Two batters later, junior Leah Della Torre had a two-out, two-run single to extend the lead.
Drevlow pitched four and two-thirds innings in relief, earning her first win of the season, allowing no runs on only two hits and three walks.
The women committed only one error while securing the win, despite being outhit 9-6.
Della Torre led the offense with a 2-for-3 performance with a triple and two RBI. Senior Megan Day added two hits and a run in the win.
The Lady Lions take their 1-1 record into a Feb. 28 doubleheader against visiting North Greenville University.
