Piedmont College now offers an opportunity for students to broaden their cultural horizons and expose themselves to different cultures. Applications are now available from Piedmont administrator Viviane Daigle for either the fall or spring semester at the University of Nottingham in England.

"Students that went this past fall had a fabulous time both academically and socially," says Daigle. "They met and interacted with students from all over the world."

Daigle says the University of Nottingham prides itself in its international connections. The university also has campuses in China and Malaysia, which could one day offer even more opportunities for Piedmont students.

"The most beneficial part was experiencing a different culture," says Piedmont senior Chris Bryan, a student who attended Nottingham last fall. "And meeting people from virtually every country in the world."

Bryan says he strongly recommends others to look into the study abroad program because it's an inexpensive way to travel in Europe and the U.K.

Piedmont sophomore Sadie Blakenship is one of six students that will be attending the university next year and looks forward to her traveling opportunities. She says traveling and learning about other cultures has been one of her lifelong dreams.

Students must have completed between 45 and 75 credit hours with a minimum 3.25 GPA. According to Daigle, applications to attend in fall 2008 are due by March 14, and applications for spring 2009 will be available in the fall.

"E-mails were sent out and flyers are posted around campus but students are simply not answering the call," says Bryan.
