Black Heritage Poetry and Music Night

The Piedmont College administration decided to change February from Multicultural Month to Black History Month. This change sparked interest in events across campus that raised awareness about important aspects of black culture.
One event was the Night of Black Heritage Poetry and Music that was held at The Grill on Georgia Street on Feb. 21. Sophomore Carmen Little led the event that consisted of poetry readings, music and history lessons about important black leaders from America's history.
Dr. Stephanie Almagno, associate professor of english, attended the event and was able to assist with contributions from her literature classes.
Some of the people that were discussed were poets Maya Angelou, Nikki Giovanni and Langston Hughes. One of the most important eras that was discussed was the Harlem Renaissance.
