To cap off a week of career milestones by seniors Sheena Trimiar and Jake Baldwin, both the Piedmont College women's and men's basketball teams took it to the hardwood at Huntingdon College on Feb. 9.
The Lady Lions came into Montgomery building off the momentum of their 111-17 romping of Wesleyan College, as they extended their winning streak to eight games with a 76-60 victory over Huntingdon.
A double-double from senior Nikki Sosebee in collaboration with four three-pointers from sophomore Lisa Jennings kept the Lady Lions undefeated in Great South Athletic Conference play, bringing the dream of a GSAC crown much closer to a reality.
Trimiar recently reached 1,000 career points at Piedmont during a nine-point win over Maryville on Feb. 2.
After dropping back-to-back games to Maryville and Oglethorpe, the men's team looked to rebound as they headed into their conference game.
After trailing for most of the evening, a clutch three-pointer from sophomore Samuel Coppage and two last-second free-throws from senior Jake Green tied the game with only seconds remaining.
However, a buzzer-beater from Huntingdon gave the Hawks a 73-71 victory.
The loss puts the Lions at 11-11 on the season and 1-3 in GSAC play.
Baldwin became the first Piedmont men's basketball player to eclipse 2,000 career points after draining a three-pointer in the Lions' loss to Oglethorpe on Feb. 6.
Baldwin needed only 97 games to reach the plateau. It took him 59 games to reach 1,000 and only 38 to reach 2,000.
The men and women play host to LaGrange College in GSAC action on Feb. 16 at Cave Arena.
