As the weather begins to gradually warm up, the softball and women's tennis teams will spring into action.
The softball team, which will be led by seniors Brooke Smith, Megan Day, Marissa Harding and Emily Maxey, has already begun practicing.
They are eagerly anticipating their season opener on Feb. 23 at Southern Wesleyan University.
The Lady Lions are coming off a 20-21 season, but feel that they have an opportunity to achieve their goal of a Great South Athletic Conference championship this season.
With their top five hitters returning, including Day, Harding and Maxey, as well as sophomore Michelle Crandall and junior Leah Della Torre, the offense appears to be in good hands.
If the young, talented pitching holds up, this could be an excellent season for the Lady Lions.
On the courts, the Lady Lions tennis squad will be led by first year head coach Courtney Rutherford.
They will look to regain supremacy in the GSAC. With no upper-classmen on the roster, the young team will hit the road for their season opener on Feb. 15 at the University of the South-Sewanee.
They will not have a home match until March 1, when they play host to Salem College.
The women hope to have gained some momentum by that point.
Both the Lady Lions tennis and softball teams anticipate having stellar seasons and competing for the GSAC automatic NCAA National Tournament bid.
