Leadership and values are a part of American culture that many people feel are sorely lacking in our contemporary society. With that in mind, Piedmont College recently gave two students a chance to be a part of the Georgia Leadership Forum in Atlanta. Junior Daniela Guevara and sophomore Maghan Holmes were sent to hear from many speakers, such as Senator Johnny Isakson from Georgia.
The forum focused on issues of leadership and values and how to continue living a Christian lifestyle, in the public eye. Eighty of Georgia's best college minds came together from Feb. 1 to 3 for the forum. The event was supposed to include dinner with the Governor, but his plans had to be altered at the last minute.
After hearing from the speakers the first night, the students were sent out into the community on Saturday to perform community services.
One of the groups went to the Atlanta Youth Academy and performed clean-up duties around the center.
"The talks were centered on helping you be the best Christian you can be," says Guevara. She also said that it was an excellent experience, and one that she would definitely love to do again. She even hinted that the National Leadership Forum would be something that would interest her in the future.
"With the many problems in our modern society, it is good to see that some people still believe that the youth of our country can be groomed to lead us into a better era," says Guevara.
