Every week the Habersham County Rotary Club meets. Members catch up on events, plan later events, and welcome new members. This week, the Piedmont College Rotaract Club played host to the meeting.
Five of the 27 members attended the meeting. Each student had a job and each student spoke at the meeting. Tim Suda, president of the club, introduced all of the members and also spoke about current projects. He also announced future projects for the group.
This week's special guest was Dr. Rick Rose, theatre department chair. Rose discussed the many event that are going on this semester in the department, such as Kiss Me, Kate, Gamagertons Needle and The Dining Room. He also spoke about the new amphitheatre that will be constructed over the summer. It will have 400 seats and will hold concerts, plays and many other activities.
For the upcoming semester, the Rotaract Club plans to do community work at the Friends of Habersham County Animal Shelter, clean up their Adopt-a-Highway road, and organize a team for Habersham Relay to raise money for breast cancer research.
Last year, Habersham county participated in the Habersham Relay. The relay earned $113,000 and this year their goal is $125,000.
Toward the end of the semester, the Rotaract Club is attending the district Rotaract conference, held at the University of Georgia.
The students participated in the luncheon and the conference last year. They hope to keep participating in these events.
