The fairly new replacement to the Stir-It-Up Grill, the Burger Shak, hopes to grab customers with its wide assortment of its signature meal, variety of hot dogs, vast selection of sandwiches, and other food choices that are sure to keep you coming back for more. I'll be honest, that first sentence had some exaggerations and overblown truths. The fact is, there is a lot about the Burger Shak, that I found myself disappointed with. Care to learn more? Then read along.
Let's get to the first thing that bothers me the most about this place. Prices. This probably isn't a big surprise to those that read my articles, but I'm a big fan of good food at cheap or reasonable prices. Burger Shak fails to impress me on all levels. Let's look at the prices of their burgers as an example.
Burger-$2.99
Cheeseburger-$3.49
Bacon Cheeseburger-$3.99
Doubleburger-$3.99Seem like reasonable prices don't they? And I thought that too. What I didn't include, however, was the price of sides. Yes people, you have to pay for side orders and drinks separately to make a satisfying meal. And the prices for these side orders are nothing to scoff at. Just look for yourself.
Home-made French Fries-$1.50
Battered Onion Rings-$2.25
Chili Cheese Fries-$2.99
Jalapeno Poppers-$4.95
Mozzarella Sticks-$4.95
Unbelievable isn't it? How do you justify such high prices for a side order? Such a thing is unheard of in restaurants like Outback Steakhouse or Chili's. If you took the time to add up how much money this costs, along with a drink, which is $1.50, you're meal would come out to around 7 or 8 dollars. For example, a Cheeseburger, plus Onion Rings, plus a drink, comes out to $7.24 without tax. And it's not like they have special deals or anything, where you can get all of that stuff at a reasonable price. No. You have to buy everything individually. Well surely, the prices reflect the quality of the food right? I mean, that must be why this stuff costs so much. Unfortunately, this is not the case. $2.25 for Onion Rings is not worth it for only 6 Onion Rings. The burgers are where your going to be the most disappointed. To be called the Burger Shak, you'd think that the burgers would be plump, juicy, well cooked works of art. Wrong! Instead, you get pieces of meat flatter than paper. It's as if they stole Wendy's style and then decided to deceptively charge you $8 for flat meat and sub standard side orders. I mean, why is this stuff so expensive and lacking? Why? If it wasn't obvious as to how much of a rip-off this place is, they purposely make the best burger they have the most expensive. That's right people, if you want a decent meal out of this experience, you'll have to drop $4.50 for their 1/2lb Angus. And anybody who thinks that alternate choices like chicken sandwiches will be better or healthier can forget it. The chicken is grilled just as flat as the meat on the burgers, but manages to be greasier.
I'll end this review here because I can't continue to recount my experience at this place. I'm almost positive that a lot of you here do not have the funds to eat here and would rather spend your money at a place where you know the food is good and reasonably priced. I can't even put the effort in to draw you a map because I don't want any of you to go here and get cheated out of your well-earned dollars. Just don't do it to yourselves people.
